Prepulsid Class Proceeding - Update October 21, 2009

Prepulsid, also known as Cisapride (marketed as Propulsid in the U.S.) was a medication used for treatment of acid reflux, also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), or heartburn.  Prepulsid was withdrawn from the market in 2000 because it was causing heart-rhythm problems or cardiac arrhythmia.

Acheson Whitley Sweeney filed a class action lawsuit in British Columbia against the manufacturers of Prepulsid.   Class actions were also filed in Ontario, Quebec and the mariitime provinces.  We have cooperated with plaintiffs counsel across Canada and are pleased that a settlement has been reached through the Ontario and Quebec actions.  The Ontario class action has been certified to apply to all residents in Canada, excluding Quebec.  British Columbia residents are included in the Ontario class action.

The national settlement has now been approved by the courts.  The deadline for submitting claims is August 14, 2010.

To submit your claim or to review the details of the settlement see http://www.prepulsidsettlement.com or call the claims administrator at 1-866-348-0333.
